About Scarlet
Meet Scarlet! Scarlet is a two-years old lab/dachshund mix and came to the shelter in July with a litter of 6 puppies and was completely unsocialized. Once the puppies were adopted she moved into her foster's house, who then reached out to B&B. She is completely house trained (100% reliable, no accidents ever!), crate trained, fantastic with cats, and after the initial introduction with the dogs in her foster home, she has been perfect with them, too. She is working on enjoying car rides and walking out in public. She stays loose in her foster home 24/7 and has never had a problem with destructive behavior. Scarlet lacks a lot of confidence, and although she has made tremendous progress, she is still overcoming a lot of nervousness about new things, people in her space, and changes to her environment. Sometimes she will bark when her people are out of her view and she wants her people to come sit with her- She's a diva who knows what she wants! - so she loves to be in the mix with everyone, just not up in your space (just one bark to let you know she is looking for you, she is not a barker out the window or in general). She loves to be near you and accepts affection from you once she has gotten to know you. She has never offered a hint of a growl or aggression. Scarlet walks very well on a leash. She knows "leave it" and loves to sniff. She loves watching squirrels and has been completely uninterested in chickens. She loves to "zoomie" on the leash outside! Scarlet is looking for a home with a person or couple that is quiet and patient, and wants to take her out to sniff new places at her pace. She would do well with someone with a low to moderately active lifestyle, and no children as the noise and energy level would be stressful for her. She needs to be walked on leash as she has dug out of a backyard before when unsupervised, and she is a flight risk if she gets out. Scarlet is being fostered in Amelia, VA. She will require an adopter committed to continued training and socialization. She is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, spayed, and on monthly preventatives! Her $375 adoption fee covers the cost of her spay, core vaccines, and microchip. To apply to adopt Scarlet, visit www.beaglesandbentleys.org/adopt Note: Sending a Petfinder inquiry is not submitting an application. We require a completed adoption application to move forward with adoption. Beagles and Bentleys has an across-the-board evaluative process that we apply to every application we review that prioritizes our animals in need. We conduct a vet reference check (all resident dogs must be altered/up to date on dhpp/rabies and monthly preventatives) and a virtual home visit call where we discuss the adoption process and see your home.
