Thank you!** From tough times to tail wags, Rockyās journey is a story of hope and strength! Meet Rocky - a just shy of 2 year old, Bulldog / Mastiff mix, who weighs about 50 pounds (as of 1/19/26). This boy is incredibly resilient and his story will just break your heart. He was a stray puppy that was abandoned in an apartment complex in a low income, small town in the Mississippi Delta. According to residents, he was a friendly little fella that would show up on doorsteps begging for food. As he was growing up, it became apparent that this boy was dealing with skin issues that needed medical attention immediately. It got worse over time (and we will spare you the pictures), but his itchy and enflamed skin became so bad that he was nothing by scabs from the tip of his nose all the way to the end of his tail. He was infested with Sarcoptic Mange mites. By the time one of the residents FINALLY took pity on him and called ARRF, Rocky was painful to look at...it absolutely broke your heart. While we will never understand how this could have happened, we are grateful to the person who did finally make that call and get him the help he deserved. Rocky was taken immediately to our veterinarian where he spent the next several months in their care. He was treated for the most severe case of Sarcoptic Mange and the underlying infection his body was fighting. Then add to that testing positive for heartworm. THIS BOY HAS BEEN THROUGH WAY TOO MUCH!! But now with his heartworm treatment done and his gorgeous brindle coat in full lustre he is ready to find his people. While this boy has previously been completely failed by mankind, he is still so eager to please and SO appreciative of any affection that he is given! He loves to play and frolic with other pups and loves to play with children. He loves meeting new people and is just always so happy. He is a smart boy, and is quick study and loves to please his people. If you make him a part of your family, you will, truly, have the best, most devoted friend for life! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
