Meet Kevin! He's a playful, curious, and independent 10-month-old Labrador mix who is ready to squirm himself and his love of play into your heart and home. His Dad was a Labrador and his Mom was a German Shepherd. This handsome guy was surrendered to a vet practice after he ingested a non-food item, and his owners were unable to provide him with the necessary lifesaving surgery. After nursing him back to health, the vet office reached out to Brookline to help find him a forever home. The first 8 months of Kevin's life was spent living outside on a farm. Once he was surrendered, his life changed dramatically. First there was the lifesaving surgery and recovery. Once he was feeling better, Kevin basically lived at the vet office. While there, he began to learn how to live like an inside dog with a home and how to manage things like walking up and down stairs. He also met a cat that he got along with, but his absolute favorite thing was the time he got to spend with the vet's two young (6 and 7) daughters. He absolutely adored them, and they played every day. He also spent a lot of time with the vet's office manager and would accompany her home over long weekends. And, of course, he loved meeting all of the dogs that came to the vet's office. Once Kevin was fully recovered, he joined his foster family where he was thrilled to discover lots of snow, below freezing temperatures, and the joy of snow days that cancel work. He loves playing with their two dogs, going on walks, and is always up for a game of chase or "keep away the stick" in the back yard. He also enjoys his downtime, so if he is outside, you might see him stretched out on top of the snow and sticking his nose forward until he finds "the perfect" bite of snow to enjoy. When inside, Kevin will happily chew on his favorite bacon-flavored dog treat or take a rest on his favorite dog bed. Kevin is a dog's dog- not only does he tolerate when the 4-month-old puppy chews on his ear, absconds with some pieces of his kibble or steals the toy he is chewing on, but Kevin has also earned the fierce loyalty of our 9-year-old dog who, up until this point, only had an affinity for long walks, mushy blue berries, and barking at the deer and foxes she spies in the back woods. Kevin can be shy to strangers, but he is making progress. Kevin finds the world a fascinating place that is worthy of exploring, so he likes to spend time outside looking at all of the nature surrounding him. On walks, he enjoys sniffing the snow and picking up scents. He also enjoys going on a run and would make a strong companion for someone who enjoys the same.
