About Lane
Lane is an 8-month-old Lab / Black Mouth Cur mix weighing about 40 lbs, and he’s pure happiness and resilience. Lane was rescued from a high-risk North Carolina shelter after being hit by a car, suffering a broken pelvis and two broken femurs. Amazingly, his injuries have self-healed, and he currently needs no medical treatment or activity restrictions. His vet described his healing as "miraculous". He shows no signs of pain and runs, plays, climbs stairs, and jumps on the couch like any normal puppy. A wheelchair cart was generously donated, but Lane does not need it at this time and gets around completely on his own. Long-term, he may develop arthritis later in life, so regular vet care and monitoring for pain will be important as he ages. Lane is otherwise healthy, very gentle, and incredibly sweet. He does great with handling — including nail trims, being picked up, and carried — and he has never met a stranger. He’s friendly with other dogs and has the potential to live with cats, though his playful puppy energy can be a bit much for them right now. Lane will be neutered by the rescue, but his vet recommended waiting another 1-2 months before doing so. Lane would make a wonderful family dog, including a home with children who can play gently as he grows older. His tail never stops wagging, he loves affection, and he’s ready to find his forever family.
