Meet Cookie & Rambo - a lifetime duo who deserve a second chance Cookie and Rambo came to NHR this week as owner surrenders-taken in just in time to spare them from being euthanized. These two have been together their entire lives. When their family was forced to move out of state and couldn't take them along, Cookie and Rambo were left with no options and a heartbreaking deadline. We couldn't let their story end that way. Cookie is a 9-year-old female bulldog, about 55 lbs, and as sweet as they come. She's gentle, loving, and has clearly known what it means to be part of a family. At intake, we discovered she has a severe UTI and skin infections, which we've already begun treating. Despite feeling miserable, Cookie's spirit is nothing but kind. Rambo is a 7-year-old male shepherd mix with the same sweet, loving temperament. Unfortunately, X-rays revealed devastating news-Rambo has severe arthritis in both back hips. Standing up and lying down is painful, and mobility is a daily struggle. He will need FHO surgery on both hips to live comfortably again. The cost is $800 per leg - $1,600 total. At intake, we were able to: Fully vaccinate both dogs Confirm heartworm negative and fecal negative Start monthly preventatives Their initial vet visit, including X-rays and exams, has already cost $600. We were not told about these medical issues-but that doesn't change our commitment. Cookie and Rambo deserve comfort, dignity, and the chance at a new chapter together... or apart if needed.
