About Elmo
Elmo is a 10 month old Great Pyrenees mix who came to us after being shot in the hip, with the bullet lodged near his spine. Thankfully, it has since become completely encapsulated, and all the specialists agree that attempting to remove it would be far riskier than leaving it alone. The good news is that this does not define Elmo’s future. He is healthy, comfortable, and expected to live a long, happy life. For now, Elmo would do best skipping the extreme sports. No leaping from rock to rock or scaling tall peaks in his immediate future. That said, he is very much a normal, joyful dog who enjoys his walks, his people, and his canine friends. He is good with other dogs, loves people, and has a particularly strong appreciation for a high quality dog bed where he can fully relax. He has not lived with cats and showed some mild interest in them, so dog savvy cats would likely be fine. Because he is still young and will grow into a large, solid adult, we recommend kids over 10 or sturdy kids and because we want kids to be old enough to understand that Elmo is not a pony given his medical issues. Elmo would thrive in a home that understands he does not need to be an adventure athlete to be a wonderful companion. Elmo is sweet, resilient, and quietly brave. He has been through more than any dog should, yet he greets the world with trust and calm. He is ready for a safe home with soft beds and an ample supply of snacks.
