Hi, I’m Dixie! I’m a 5-year-old black Lab with a soft heart, a gentle soul, and a little emotional baggage I’m still working through. I’m sweet as can be, especially with kids (I adore them!), and I live peacefully with a cat. I’ve been through some tough times. My original person passed away suddenly, and the few weeks that followed were scary and confusing for me. I landed in a loving home, but something from that hard chapter still lingers, and I get really nervous around one particular person in the home. It’s heartbreaking because I really want to feel safe all the time. I’ve never tried to hurt anyone, no nips or bites, just some scared barking and shaking when I feel unsure. I’m really just a sensitive girl trying to feel safe. Around everyone else, I’m all belly rubs, tail wags, and cozy snuggles. I love being with people and soaking up all the calm, loving energy I can find. I’ve done well with other dogs, have been to doggy daycare before, and I’ve never had to worry about livestock or free roaming, since I’ve only ever known life in a fenced yard. I’m about 75 lbs and full of love to give, I just need the right home where I can feel truly secure again.
