About Goat

Goat’s story starts at an overcrowded California shelter where he landed on the last-chance list purely for lack of space. His luck turned when local volunteers flagged him for rescue, and now he’s with experienced fosters in Washington. Goat is a smart, young, medium-sized male—about a year old and likely a Whippet/Labrador Retriever mix. He likes outings, does well running with volunteers, and handles himself nicely on public excursions. He already crate trains well, is learning leash skills, and shows a lot of promise as an active partner—running buddy, obedience champ, or loyal best friend. Goat is kind with other polite dogs of similar size. He’ll need a securely fenced yard directly connected to the house (no electronic fencing) and a sturdy, safe crate—wire or soft-sided styles aren’t accepted by his rescue. Apartments won’t be considered for his adoption, but some condos with private fenced yards might work. Homes with children are not preferred at this time. His adoption is only open to approved homes in Western Washington (and possibly northern Oregon). Adopters will need to show photos of their fence and crate, and meet Goat in person in Poulbso, WA. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and looking for a family ready to help him thrive. They’re excited to see who steps up for him. Click apply to start the adoption process.

Questions about Goat

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Goat’s Whippet/Labrador Retriever mix background means he thrives in homes with enough space to run and play. Active households with access to a securely fenced yard in the Seattle, WA, area will be best for him.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Dogs like Goat, with Whippet and Labrador traits, need daily opportunities for outdoor exercise in a secure yard. Access to parks or trails for walks or runs is ideal.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

While Labrador Retrievers are often good with children, Goat's current rescue prefers homes without young kids due to limited background information. An adult-only home or one with older, respectful children would suit him best.
