AvailableGilly, a medium-sized black and white mixed breed with short fur, is living in Columbus, OH. He’s still young, fully grown at approximately 37 pounds, and is neutered. Gilly is up-to-date on vaccinations and house trained. He gets along with dogs and, while not having special needs, benefits from a calm environment where he can thrive with routine and gentle attention.
About Gilly
Gilly spent days on his own, navigating the streets and the frozen Sandusky River in northwest Ohio. After some time living as a stray and dodging capture, he finally made it into rescue through careful, patient trapping. At first, Gilly showed every sign of having little experience with people—he was nervous, unsocialized, and protective of himself. Now, thanks to a foster who knows how to take things slow, Gilly’s starting to come around. He’s found a love for treats and playtime, shows growing confidence, and is even beginning to return affection when he feels comfortable. He’s learning obedience cues and figuring out what it means to trust humans. Gilly weighs 37 pounds, is neutered, and his vaccinations are current. While nobody knows exactly what mix he is, there’s a good guess of lab, beagle, and maybe a dash of chihuahua. He’ll need a low-traffic home without young kids and with people around regularly who can offer steady routine and patience. Gilly absolutely requires a securely fenced yard—he enjoys leash walks, but needs a safe spot to run and decompress. He gets along well with dogs. Applications are welcome from within Ohio. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Gilly
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Gilly, as a mix of Labrador Retriever and Beagle, does best in a home with plenty of routine and predictability. He’ll be happiest in a calm household where the environment isn’t too busy and there’s safe access to outdoor space.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Gilly's lab and beagle ancestry mean he enjoys having a yard to explore and space to run. He’ll need at least a medium-sized, securely fenced yard to burn off energy and decompress.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Beagle and lab mixes like Gilly can be gentle, but Gilly himself would do best without young children due to his shy and cautious nature. He needs more predictability and calm than most busy family homes offer.
