About Ansel

Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Ansel, a dazzling 3-year-old neutered male who is here to steal hearts and bring joy in ways you never thought possible! This loving giant is a total cuddler and has affection oozing from every paw. Ansel is the kind of velcro dog who might just follow you into the kitchen just to rest his head at your feet while you prepare a delicious meal. If you sit down, expect him right by your side, gazing up as though you are his whole world. He is fully house-trained and making progress with crate training (though he prefers to make his own grand entrance). Ansel picks up commands quickly and already knows “sit,” “down,” “focus,” and “kennel up” like a star pupil. With support, he’s building his impulse control and focus, and the fun is just getting started! Ansel is a leash puller, but a gentle leader collar helps him on walks—he simply needs help minding his own size! He has a big personality and can show some separation anxiety (with a little panting but no destructive behaviors), so he will benefit from a patient adopter who understands how to build confidence in anxious pups. Ansel has previously enjoyed life with another calm, large dog and would do well with a confident canine companion, though he would need thoughtful introductions as he’s still learning boundaries. He should not be in a home with cats or small animals for safety. Snuggling, learning new tricks, playing chase, and eating are just some of Ansel’s favorite things! He is a heart-stealer who may show toy guarding tendencies, but responds well to gentle management and structure. In the right home, Ansel will blossom into a loyal, loving, and fun companion. He will thrive in a home with an experienced owner who provides positive reinforcement, clear boundaries, love, and structure. For Ansel’s adoption, a six-week Canine 101 training class at the Troy, VA headquarters is required, or out-of-area adopters can do a private lesson and follow up with positive reinforcement training locally. With Ansel in your home, life will certainly be brighter and more joyful. If you’re ready for his big heart and even bigger cuddles, now’s the time! Fun fact: Ansel was born on February 23, making him a Pisces—true to his sign, he’s intuitive and deeply loving. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!
