About Onyx
Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you. Onyx is a young Great Dane with a big heart, a playful spirit, and just the right amount of goofiness to keep you smiling. At around a year old, she's still very much a puppy in a giant body, exploring the world with curiosity and enthusiasm. She thrives with other dogs and lights up whenever she has a confident canine companion to play with, whether that's tug-of-war, backyard zoomies, or learning new games from her housemates. Onyx's playful style is best suited to homes with another medium to large dog who can match her exuberance. Affectionate by nature, Onyx loves staying close to her people and happily curls up with you after playtime. She's a smart girl who already knows “sit,” “kennel,” and her name, and she's picking up new tricks like “off” and high-five quickly. Her house training is coming along well, with only occasional accidents as she learns. She sleeps comfortably in her crate overnight and is becoming more at ease settling during the day, especially with another calm dog nearby. Onyx is still building confidence with new environments, people, and especially leash walks, where she may bark or react. With patience and continued positive reinforcement, she's already making progress and learning that new situations aren't so scary. She'll do best in a home that offers stability, consistency, and ongoing positive reinforcement-based training, plus plenty of exercise and enrichment. A fenced yard and playful dog buddy would be ideal for her happiness. If you're looking for a loyal, playful, slightly clumsy companion who will grow with you and bring boundless love, Onyx may be your perfect match. Fun fact: Onyx was born on April 18, making her an Aries—known for their spirited energy and adventurous hearts! At Green Dogs Unleashed, a six-week positive reinforcement training class at their Troy, VA, headquarters is required for adoption, with some consideration for out-of-area adopters willing to complete approved training. Meeting Onyx in person at the rescue is necessary for adoption. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
