About Paprika

Pappy was born at the rescue in April 2023 to a mom who was saved from the outdoors just in the nick of time before she went in to labor. He was adopted in July 2023 as a kitten. Paprika had a loving indoor home, but it was too stressful and he reacted by urinating inappropriately. Prior to coming to his current foster home, he spent the last 2 weeks in another person’s home and behaved perfectly! We wonder if it was just a little too much in his home with the young children and a cat who was a bully to him. He came back to our rescue in July 2025 and has decompressed . He is awaiting his furever home in a calm setting where he can relax. Being a male he needs to eat a high quality food to prevent any crystal formation. It has become apparent that he needs a high sided enclosed litterbox because of his condition affectionately called “ elevator butt.” He basically stands up very tall in the litterbox , so if the litterbox isn’t enclosed the urine goes over the edge. We do now wonder if that was the real issue in his adoptive home. He is not real good with first impressions, he hisses at new people but then will roll over on his side to be pet. He did that with us too , but once he feels comfortable he is very social and likes human interaction. We do have him on daily meds to help his anxiety along with a prescription diet and we would advise to continue it using that at least for a short period of time during the transition into a new home. Paprika is currently living at a foster home in York, PA. He is very gentle and once he feels comfortable he will come out of his shell. We believe his IDEAL HOME will have NO CHILDREN and maybe 1 or 2 friendly cats. He would do ok without other cats too as long as he has a human as a companion.
