About Brownie
Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now! Meet Brownie, the sweetest snacc around! Brownie is a 5-year-old large, Dachshund-Terrier mix who has been neutered. He was rescued from a tough situation in LA and is now looking for a loving forever family. Despite living with congenital blindness, Brownie communicates beautifully with gentle voices and touch, and he visits the vet yearly to manage a mild heart murmur. He is also managing allergies with Apoquel and is diligent about his self-care! Bathroom and leash trained, Brownie knows cues like "right," "left," "stairs/step," and "outside," and even rings a bell when it's potty time. Brownie's foster reports he is affectionate, calm, and shadows his favorite person around, thriving on cuddles and belly rubs. He greets with excitement yet knows his limits, preferring to approach life at his own pace. Brownie enjoys solo play with plush and squeaky toys (which he loves to dig, bury, and toss!) and gets along with calm dogs given slow introductions. He prefers to eat privately and doesn’t like sharing toys, so a home without cats or young kids is ideal. A patient, loving household with young adults—especially females—would be Brownie’s dream. He's very selective about friends, but if you are chosen, his loyalty and love are unmatched. Brownie accompanies you on short walks and moderate activities and can be left alone at home, though he enjoys company. With adoption, two free training sessions with blind-dog expert Deb Bauer will help set Brownie and his new family up for success, no matter where you are located. They are waiting with paws crossed! Questions about Brownie
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Mixed-breed dogs like the Dachshund-Terrier mix are often adaptable but do best in homes where they get plenty of attention and mental stimulation. They can thrive in both houses with yards and apartments, as long as their activity needs are met.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
A Dachshund-Terrier mix will appreciate a secure outdoor space for exercise, but regular walks and indoor play can also keep them happy. They do not require a large yard, but enjoy time outdoors for exploration and stimulation.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Terrier mixes can be suitable for homes with respectful, older children who understand how to interact gently. Due to their selective nature and individual quirks, introductions should always be supervised.
