About Heckle
Heckle, also known as Sir Handsome Heckle, is a 4-year-old pit bull/lab mix who has truly come into his own while in foster care. He starts off a bit shy around new people, but warms up with time—and once he trusts you, his goofy personality comes through. Heckle thrives with another dog in the house (he tends to get along best with other males), and he often looks to his canine companion for cues about the world and household routines. He’s pretty chill with cats, just a little curious—and doesn’t chase. New people and dogs get him excited; if he barks, it’s just nerves, not aggression, and he settles down once he’s comfortable. He’s otherwise quiet around the house, including when crated, where he feels safe. He has solid kennel manners and enjoys both his time outdoors and quietly shadowing his people inside. Heckle is house trained, hasn’t chewed anything that wasn’t his, and knows basic commands like sit, leave it, off, and wait. He’s still sharpening lay down and fetch/drop, but with consistent boundaries, he’ll keep improving. Bath time is a highlight for him—he loves the attention and scents—and he’s easygoing with grooming as long as you don’t rush. Heckle isn’t especially food-motivated, but rewards help a little. He’s comfortable with structure and routine. He’s never lived with children and would do best in a home with older kids or adults. Heckle is a Pisces, so don’t be surprised if you catch him daydreaming or sticking close—loyalty is in his stars. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Heckle
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Heckle’s pit bull/labrador retriever mix background makes him adaptable, but he does best in a home where he can have structure, routine, and regular companionship. He'll enjoy a setting where another friendly dog can be his playmate and role model.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
A yard is helpful for a dog like Heckle, who enjoys playing and running, but regular walks and play sessions in the park can also keep him happy and healthy. He doesn’t require endless space, just some room to stretch his legs.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
While pit bull/lab mixes can be great family dogs, Heckle would do best with older children or adults since he’s not used to young kids. A calmer home suits his personality and needs.
