Every stray has a story. This one's is short, but sweet. Some volunteers have been calling him "Petey", others call him "Sweety". We haven't settled on a name quite yet, but we all agree he's a really great dog - quite a favorite of the volunteers. He was tied to the fence at the animal control facility, Was he abandoned? Or, as we would prefer to think, was he found by a good Samaritan who tied him to the fence to keep him safe. Whichever it was, he somehow got out of the leash, and wandered to the side of the building where the hose was dripping. That's where the Animal Control Officer found him - getting himself a drink of water. .....Just a sweet, friendly, goof-ball.... (the dog, we mean)..... The ACO went to enter the facility, and Sweet Petey walked right in. Since then he's made himself comfortable, and he seems "to be enjoying his vacation". But he needs more than a vacation. This dog needs a home to call his own. When the town vet was in he estimated Petey to be about 2 years old - and he updated Petey's rabies vaccination. Petey is presently at our vet's being brought up to date on whatever he needs (including his Distemper and Bordetella Vaccinations, being tested for Heartworm/Lyme Disease, being checked for parasites, and neutered). They, too, estimate Petey is about 2 years old, and he weighed in at just over 69 lbs. Petey is an energetic dog that needs lots of exercise. He would be perfect for a jogger, or as a companion with someone that likes to take long walks.
