About Chief
Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today. Chief is a big-hearted Rottweiler who found himself at a North Carolina shelter after being left by his previous owner—he made it through a challenging time, avoiding illness, and is now in rescue after the shelter lifted its quarantine. Despite his large size (over 100 pounds!), Chief is a true lap dog at heart, eager for cuddles on the couch and always gentle when taking treats or waiting for his meals. Playful with his toys but happy to relax, Chief shows off his good manners with commands like sit and wait, and he enjoys being groomed and bathed. He is quite strong on a leash and can be enthusiastic when leaving his yard, so a handler ready for his energy is needed. Chief is house broke, crate trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. He gets along well with female dogs but has not been tested with males, and due to his tendency to communicate with his whole body when excited, he isn’t recommended for homes with children. Chief is fostered in Floyd, Virginia, and waiting for someone ready to provide him with the home and affection he deserves. Make their next chapter their best one yet.

Questions about Chief
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Rottweilers generally thrive in homes with space to move and clear boundaries set by their guardians. They do best with access to a securely fenced yard, but can adapt to various environments as long as their mental and physical needs are met.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Rottweilers are large, active dogs who benefit from a good-sized, securely fenced yard. Daily walks and opportunities to play or train outdoors are important for their well-being.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Rottweilers can be excellent family dogs when properly trained and socialized, but their size and strength mean they should be supervised around young children. Early socialization and respectful interactions are key.
