About Lucky

Lucky is an 11-year-old Chihuahua who wears his heart on his sleeve but hides it behind a tough-guy act. He’s timid at first meet, barking like he wants to keep the world at bay, but it’s all bravado—Lucky’s really searching for affection and security. Despite his German Shepherd attitude, this little guy weighs just 5 lbs and is down to two teeth, making him even more endearing. He needs someone patient who understands the quirks of a small, sensitive chihuahua and will give him the time and gentle handling he needs. Lucky lost the only family he’s known when his owner went into a nursing home. He nearly ended up in a shelter, but rescue intervened just in time. Like many male chihuahuas, he’s prone to marking and will need frequent potty breaks and belly bands in the home. He uses pee pads, but sometimes misses, and occasionally chooses vertical targets—the price of being a tiny old man with opinions. He prefers brief trips outside when it’s not too cold, and settles comfortably inside after. Skinny and fragile, Lucky needs high-quality food to keep his weight up. He’d do best sharing his life (and nap space) with another small, gentle dog. Lucky is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He just had a dental, too. He’s looking for a dedicated family that understands the long-term commitment chihuahuas can require. Give this tiny, scrappy soul a soft landing for his golden years.
