About Ryder
Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Ryder! This handsome Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler is a smart, playful, and mischievous boy who is about 2–3 years old. Although he can be shy at first in new situations, he quickly warms up to reveal his energetic and affectionate personality. Ryder genuinely wants to please his people, and he excels at playing with his dog friends at the rescue. He is very intelligent and is already working on mastering his basic skills. Ryder crates well in a sturdy, high-quality crate and will need a securely fenced yard attached to your home. Adopters must have like-sized dogs only, as large dogs are not permitted in the same household, and the organization requires a physical fence (not electronic or wire/crates). Applicants should live in Western Washington or possibly Northern Oregon, as out-of-area adoptions are not considered at this time. Ryder is currently in foster care in Poulsbo, WA, and all meet-and-greets will take place there. He is neutered and vaccinated, which will help him settle easily into his new home. The adoption donation is $400 to support transport, care, and medical needs. Please note, no apartments are allowed, and some condos and private-use fenced yards may be considered. No young children are permitted due to Ryder's history and temperament. The rescue organization prioritizes animal advocacy and will select the best environment for Ryder’s emotional needs. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Ryder
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Australian Cattle Dogs, also known as Blue Heelers, do best in homes with ample space to roam, such as houses with large, securely fenced yards. This breed thrives in active households where they receive plenty of physical and mental stimulation.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
This breed typically needs a large, secure outdoor space to play, run, and explore. Because of their high energy levels and working dog background, a fenced yard is ideal for an Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Australian Cattle Dogs can be good with children, especially if raised with them, but their herding instincts can make them prone to nipping. Supervision and training are important, and they sometimes do best with older children who are familiar with dog interactions.
