About Rivers
Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Rivers, a happy and sensitive Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler mix with an adorable stubby tail who will steal your heart! Estimated to have been born in October 2022, this clever boy is full of love, loyalty, and a desire to be by your side. Rivers knows basic commands such as sit, wait, crate, and here, and he walks well on a leash, though his training still needs ongoing consistency and positive reinforcement—he is intelligent and will test your consistency, just as smart young dogs do. Rivers enjoys the company of other dogs he knows and is playful, though he initially alerts to strangers and dogs; he is easy to redirect with proper guidance and introductions. His unique look is highlighted by his double dew claws and natural stubby tail. Rivers thrives in an environment with structure: he requires a secure, high-quality crate (wire or soft crates are not accepted), and a securely fenced yard with a minimum height of five feet—a four-foot fence is not high enough for this agile boy. Homes with apartments are not suitable. Some condos or homes with fully fenced private yards may be considered. At this time, no out-of-state adoptions are available, and adopters must be in Western Washington or possibly Northern Oregon as determined by the caseworker. Rivers is currently in foster care in Poulsbo, WA, and meet-and-greets will be held there. This special dog is waiting for someone who can provide the consistency, training, and love he needs to flourish. Adoption requirements include a sturdy, approved crate and a physically visible, dog-safe fenced yard connected to the house. Are you ready to make Rivers part of your family?
