About Pepper
They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now! Meet Pepper, the spicy little Shih Tzu who has mellowed (just a bit) over time. Pepper has been waiting for her forever home for over a year, and she is not your average Shih Tzu. This quirky girl came to the rescue after being found as an untouchable stray, fearful to the point of biting when scared. Her journey only grew tougher after she and several dogs were stolen and neglected, which set her back further. Thankfully, she is now safe, and with a patient foster, Pepper has slowly learned that not every hand is something to fear. Today, Pepper is a unique soul—independent, oddball, and sometimes feels more like a companion with boundaries rather than a lap dog. She is about 8–10 years old, fully vetted, heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and has even had a small eye growth removed. Weighing 15–20 lbs and currently shaved down, she does require sedation for grooming due to her continued discomfort with close handling. Pepper’s ideal environment? Absolutely no children—she’s petrified of them. She needs a women-led, calm home, as men can make her uneasy. She gets along fine with other calm dogs and cats, as long as they respect her space. Pepper loves her crate, isn’t interested in lounging on couches, enjoys walks, and always does her business outside. At first, she’ll need a fenced yard since leash time comes only with earned trust. Picking up or carrying Pepper is a no-go. At heart, Pepper is a low-maintenance gal who finds comfort in routine and will charm you with her peculiar personality. With a little understanding and space, she’ll bring laughter and loyalty to the right home. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
