About Duchess
Duchess is a 6-year-old spayed female with a lovely torbie and white short coat. She started life adopted as a kitten but was returned to rescue as an adult after developing aggression at home, likely due to stress and anxiety as an only pet. After several months decompressing in a patient, quiet foster setting, Duchess has shown that she can relearn trust and bond, especially through play and consistent routine. While her first reaction to new people tends to be suspicion and fear-based swatting or hissing, she does warm up over time and becomes quite affectionate, seeking out back pets and sometimes even brief cuddles—on her terms. She’s honest about her boundaries and will signal her needs clearly. For those with cat experience and a steady hand, she offers moments of true warmth and connection. Duchess finds comfort in toys and playful interaction, especially dangler toys with bells, which help her feel safe around people. When she wants attention, she’ll come over and politely place her paws on you. In her foster home, she’s lived with other mellow cats and coexisted as long as her space is respected; she’s not looking for chaotic animal roommates. Duchess needs an adopter who knows how to read her cues and is willing to let her call the shots, but for the right person, she’ll make a rewarding, complex companion.
