About Tawny

Whether you’re dreaming of retirement many years down the road, peaking at it around the bend, or enjoying the restful fruit of your labor now, we can all agree that a comfortable retirement is part of the American dream! While humans usually need to work 40-50 years before considering retirement, dogs are considered “seniors” after 5 years old and deserve a comfy retirement home to live out their golden years. At 8 years old, volunteer favorite Tawny is sure dreaming of spending her golden years in a comfy home rather than in the noisy shelter! Tawny spent a bit of time in foster- here’s what we learned: - She’s a couch potato and a big cuddle bug - She’s 100% house trained - She loves every person she meets - She’s a quiet houseguest - She spends most of her day relaxing but loves her walks and play time outside - She loves stuffed animals and balls - She loves belly rubs Here's volunteers have had to say about this Golden Girl: “If you’re looking for an easy gentle dog to foster or adopt then Tawny is the one! Tawny has proven herself time and again to be an outstanding dog. She has been on many outings with the public, visited a retirement home, spent time in foster scoring an A+, and had the honor of being Dog of the Day at PACC. She has gotten rave reports from everyone she has interacted with and is just an all-around love bug of a dog. Tawny will improve your life boatloads by loving you unconditionally and will always make you smile.” “We took Tawny to Pima County's Career Fair and she was a wonderful guest! She absolutely loves car rides and loves to run around. Once she gets her energy out, she loves to snuggle and be close to her person. She got to meet many people and was calm and well behaved with all she met. Tawny showed off her paw shaking skills to many of her visitors. I got to spend two hours with her today, and she is a happy, friendly affection dog.” “Another volunteer and I always make sure Tawny and her kennelmate get out on our shifts. They are such a great pair who get along really well. Today I took them to a play yard; Tawny is a smart one! In the yard, she was pretty independent, exploring her surroundings and ignoring her kennelmate’s attempts to play. It was just too hot and muggy so she jumped in the pool, laid down and even dipped her snoot under the water and blew some bubbles. She readily sits for treats and takes them with a gentle mouth. Tawny has the cutest shar pei chicken feet and deserves a loving retirement home.” Tawny shares her kennel politely with another pup in the shelter and has been social and tolerant when meeting other dogs in playgroup. The great thing about adopting a senior dog is that you don’t need to worry about the crazy puppy shenanigans- sweet Tawny is a mature lady who will be content to sit at your side watching the sunset, or to walk down the block at sunrise. If you’re looking for a mellow, faithful pup, come meet Tawny today!
