About Rebel
CENSUS DEADLINE - Available for adoption or foster SUNDAY, OCT 5th 3pm There’s just about nothing better than the company of an old dog- they’re past the silly puppy shenanigans and are steady, calm and wise. True to senior citizen form, Rebel is the opposite of his name- a mellow gentleman who just wants to live peacefully and snooze the day away by his person’s side! In the shelter Rebel has been a polite and slow- paced walking companion who has made new human friends easily. He warms up quickly and appreciates calm affection. When meeting other dogs in playgroup Rebel has been social and even a bit playful, with staff describing him as “very sweet and easygoing”. Rebel is an old man with some typical old man aches and pains, so is looking for a home where he can have plenty of soft spots to rest and where his family will be dedicated to his comfort. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home and would prefer no small dogs or cats. If you can offer Rebel the relaxing retirement that he deserves, please ask about him today!! Home Management Plan: 1) Undocumented bites • Per previous owner - unsure of severity or circumstance, may have been due to painful handling on rear end 2) DOG INTRO REQUIRED • Altercations with other resident dogs in pervious home 3) Dog Selective - may do best without other dogs in a home • Rebel must meet all dogs in the home prior to adoption. • Your new dog likes some dogs but may not like all dogs. • Muzzle training can be a useful tool for initial introductions to any new dogs. • They can not go to dog parks. 4) No Small Dogs/Cats • Previous owner stated negative experience with small dogs and cats. 5) Children Caution / Handling sensitivies • Rear end is currently sensitive due to potential injury or age. • Needs calm, gentle handling • Use caution if needing forced handling or touching rear legs/torso 6) High Drive Behavior • jumpy, mouthy • High drive dogs require regular mental stimulation. This can be provided through training, puzzle feeders, puzzle games, etc. • Near Miss due to redirection: Rebel saw two small dogs in the park and got overstimulated and mouthy with the handler 7) Prey Drive • May chase or pull towards small animals. May need a strong handler when out on walks. • This can be an instinctual behavior, breed related behavior or learned behavior. • Work with a trainer for behavioral modification.
