Lucy, affectionately called Ruby by those who know her, has experienced more homes than any dog should in her early life. Now three years old, she answers to Ruby (or Rubes, or Ruby Roo) and is finally looking for stability. Athletic, clever, and genuinely affectionate, Ruby bonds tightly with her people. She’s happy to nap close by, curl up on the couch, or settle in her own bed, but she’ll always let you know when she wants attention with her signature gentle licks or little boops. She’s a professional snuggler and really leans in for pets. Ruby picks up cues fast—she knows “box” to enter her crate and listens to directional commands like “go upstairs.” House-trained and crate-trained, she follows the basics (sit, come, shake, “home” on walks) and is incredibly food-motivated, making her easy to teach. If you have a favorite trick, she’ll pick it up quickly. Ruby enjoys car rides (expect a dog chin on your left shoulder), walks well on leash, and is happiest when out adventuring, wading in water, or playing tug, fetch, and chase. Ruby would thrive in a home with a yard or larger property for her to burn energy outdoors. She likes most dogs, especially with proper off-leash introductions, and has lived successfully with kids ages six and up—including some with special needs. Ruby’s 72 pounds of muscle can sometimes overwhelm small children, but she means well and is always loving. Though initially reserved with strangers and especially men, she comes out of her shell quickly with kind handling and a few treats.
