About Ranger

Ranger is a lively, extroverted boy who thrives on attention and loves being petted. He’s reliable at the groomers and knows his basic obedience cues. Underneath it all, Ranger has a gentle soul—his favorite thing in the world is chasing after a ball or going on new outdoor adventures. He’s just as content curling up beside his family for hours. Car rides are a big hit, too. While adapted well to his foster home, Ranger does best with a predictable routine. He settles quietly in his crate while his foster works or is away, often curled up with his snuggle puppy toy. He’s still a little noise sensitive at times, which likely stems from past stress, but he’s come a long way. Ranger would do best as the only dog in his home due to resource guarding and reactivity around other dogs, especially on leash. He hasn’t had much exposure to cats, but, with slow, intentional introductions, he may adjust over time. He’s shown no interest in farm animals. For children, a home with older kids (8+) fits him best, since his excitement around toys can be a lot for little ones. Inside, he loves playing fetch or keep away—any toy gets his tail wagging if you’re up for a game. A fenced yard or some open space is perfect for him to burn off energy while you work or play outside. Ranger needs a patient adopter or family with time to give him the attention, play, and reassurance he craves, and he’ll give you steadfast loyalty and affection in return. Questions about Ranger

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Ranger, as a mixed Boxer and Rhodesian Ridgeback, is best suited for a home with access to a fenced yard or open space, and with an adopter who enjoys outdoor activities. He would be happiest with someone who can involve him in both playtime and relaxation around the house.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Ranger’s breeds both do well with a securely fenced yard or regular access to open outdoor areas. He especially loves chasing after a ball, so a bit of private space where he can play fetch is ideal.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Ranger’s energy and toy drive are better suited to homes with older children—generally age 8 and up—who understand boundaries and can be patient, especially during play. These breeds can be a lot for very young kids.
