About York

Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today. York is a gentle and loyal senior husky, born in July 2015, who is now looking for a loving home where he can enjoy his retirement years. In his younger days, York excelled as an amazing sled dog and still enjoys taking walks with his people. He would be happiest with someone who will spend time with him outdoors and also provide a comfy couch for him to relax on. While York can be a bit shy when meeting new friends, he warms up quickly and blossoms into a loving companion. If you're considering adopting a retiring sled dog like York, keep in mind that these dogs are accustomed to an outdoor, working life. They'll need help learning how to navigate indoor environments and may require the same patience as raising a puppy when house training and introducing them to household sights and sounds. Sled dogs generally have medium to high energy needs and thrive with multiple daily walks and engaging toys to keep them active and happy. Because they are trained to run, these dogs are high flight risks, so secured fencing and leashes are a must until they're fully recall trained. While many sled dogs have adapted well to living with cats, their interactions with small animals should always be supervised. Fun fact: With his July 25th birthday, York is a Leo—Leos are known for their loyalty and strong bonds with their loved ones! Start your journey together! Apply now.
