About Mr. Ernie
Mr. Ernie is a red tricolor Australian Shepherd mix, about 4 years old and weighing around 35 pounds. He’s spent most of his life outside with other dogs and had very little human contact before coming into foster care. Everything’s been new—the indoors, regular affection, even being on a leash. He’s made big strides since arriving, learning house training and settling into a quieter, more trusting routine. It still takes time for him to warm up to new people, but with patience, Mr. Ernie starts to show his affectionate side, especially during calm moments. He gets along well with other dogs and ignores cats. His favorite activities are wrestling and playing chase with his foster dog sibling, so a home with a secure fenced yard and at least one other playful dog is best. Mr. Ernie is quiet and a bit reserved, but he’s picking up confidence and learning that people can be a source of treats and gentle attention. He walks decently on leash after working through his initial nervous energy and does well out in new places like parks and stores. He’s happy sleeping through the night and has proved trustworthy uncrated, preferring to sleep near people. Expect a slower adjustment period compared to dogs with more typical backgrounds, but Mr. Ernie’s gentle nature and steady progress are worth the wait. He’s being fostered in upstate New York but is adoptable in Collegeville, PA. Click apply to start the adoption process.
