About Houghie

Houghie is a hefty, comical English Bulldog with a stubborn streak and a talent for mischief. At first, he showed some possessive behavior—he once snatched a power drill and was quite determined that it was his, and the same goes for boots and even kiddie pools. When Houghie gets into his zone with his favorite toys, he doesn’t appreciate anyone interrupting his fun. He sometimes tries playing with other dogs, but has a tendency to switch from friendly to bulldozing in an instant, so caution and supervision are a must. He’s known for his quirky, dozer-like play style. Since being with his foster mom, Houghie has made progress learning that good things come when he works for them. After his neuter, Houghie unfortunately experienced a rectal prolapse. Following a couple of surgeries—including a colopexy—he’s bounced back well and seems more relaxed and comfortable these days. It’s possible that some of his challenging behaviors before surgery were due to discomfort he was experiencing. Houghie is a unique character best suited for someone familiar with bulldogs who can handle his quirks and commit to his care. He requires a fenced yard and must be kept indoors. Regular heartworm prevention is a must. Houghie does not get along with cats, and would do best in a patient and attentive home willing to work with a headstrong buddy.
