Dexter is a three-year-old mixed breed hound in foster care, currently soaking up life in Maine. He’s a loyal, goofy companion—always up for a lazy cuddle on the couch or a good ride in the car. Dexter’s big heart means he bonds tightly and lives for people time, but he’s independent enough to chill out while you’re away at work, napping contentedly with the run of the house. He listens well, knows his basics, and responds to structure, especially in busy homes. Dexter loves walks (really, he turns them into sniffing expeditions) and will happily hog the bed or sofa out of affection. He’s happiest when he gets a daily walk and plenty of interaction, but his excitement can show in a friendly jump when you come home. Dexter plays best with older dogs and does well with respectful kids, but gets uncomfortable around hyper puppies, rowdy, or in-your-face dogs. Dog parks and daycare aren’t his scene, but he does fine in a well-managed home with older, calm pets—and apparently gets a kick out of guinea pigs! He can be territorial with small children and prefers a home without them. Dexter’s not a fan of crates, but does fine as long as the area is dog-proofed.
