Leo is a 6-year-old neutered male Australian Cattle Dog and Chihuahua mix who found his way to rescue after being mistaken for a Jack Russell. Weighing around 35 pounds, Leo is small for a cattle dog, but his DNA is thoroughly Californian with bits of Minpin, poodle, and Pomeranian mixed in. He’s house and crate trained, rides well in the car, and is good on leash—especially when it means a hiking adventure. Leo gets along with all the dogs in his foster home, both big and small, but can be dog-selective with other males. No cats or young kids for Leo, and he needs a home with solid fencing (no condos or townhomes). Leo’s stubborn streak runs deep thanks to his heritage, but string cheese can convince him to negotiate. He came in flabby but daily hikes have helped him slim down; hiking has quickly become his favorite part of the day. His recall is consistent—even if it’s never instant. Baths are tolerated without much fuss, but grooming brushes make him suspicious. Leo is well-mannered, but it took him three weeks in his foster home to relax enough to run around; he’ll need patience from his new family to truly settle in.
