Leo is a 6 year old neutered male ACD cross who ended up in our rescue after being misidentified as a Jack Russell terrier. Oh well. Leo weighs 35 pounds and is on the small side for a cattle dog, but he is 46% cattle dog and 32% Chihuahua with a smidgin of Minpin, poodle and Pomeranian (like all good native Californians) according to his DNA test. Leo is house and crate trained and rides well in the car. He is good on leash and loves going hiking. Leo gets along well with all the dogs in his foster home - both large and small - but can be dog-selective with other male dogs. Leo is extremely stubborn - to be expected with those 2 dominant breeds in his makeup. But he is open to changing his mind if string cheese is involved. He was extremely flabby when he arrived in rescue, but daily hikes are slimming and tightening him up, and he LOVES it when the leash comes out. His off-leash recall is not super fast, but it does always happen. Just not right away. Leo has been cooperative about baths, but he is a little bit wary of being brushed. We are looking for an ACD-experienced decent exercise level home and an active family with no small children and NO cats. NO condos or townhomes, please, and solid fencing is a must. This is a dog who does not seem to have very high expectations of life, and he will take a couple of weeks to loosen up and relax completely in a new family. It took him 3 weeks to start running zoomies in his foster home. I don't think he has ever had much fun. So patience will be necessary for his new family. Leo is well-mannered but not ready to be silly right away. Leo is in foster care in Moses Lake, Washington. His adoption fee is $200.
