With a sleek black and tan smooth coat, he is always on the move and will thrive in a home with a large, secure, fully fenced yard (no electric or invisible fences, please). Artie is looking for an adopter who is at home most of the time and can match his playful spirit with plenty of exercise—running is right up his alley! He does best with dog buddies his own size, age, and energy level, and needs a willing playmate to spar with throughout the day. Artie is not crate-trained and does not tolerate being crated, so adopters must be experienced with high-energy dachshunds and be ready to manage a curious puppy who loves to explore. Prospective families should have prior experience with training and house training puppies and households with townhomes, condos, or apartments are not a good fit due to his tendency to bark. Artie is not suited for homes with cats or small children, and his ideal adopter can keep a close watch, as he is always looking for adventure! Local adopters are preferred so an in-person home visit can be arranged; you must be able to drive to Ellicott City, Maryland, for a meet and greet. Your new best friend is just one click away.
