About Chance

This dog (male neutered, ~50 lb) came into the shelter with a limp. X-rays showed that he is close to 1 year old. This dog has been diagnosed with a chronic fracture of the proximal femur at the juncture of the femoral neck and the femoral head (right hip) with aseptic necrosis of the femoral neck. In other words, his right hip joint is broken and compromised. He has muscle atrophy in the right limb from disuse. This chronic injury is painful and requires surgical treatment, typically a femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHNO) procedure, to remove the damaged portion of the hip joint. Our very committed foster was able to coordinate surgical repair at UC Davis, which we hope to be completed by early to Mid-November as soon as they are able. Chance will need post-operative rehabilitation and care. Chance also has mild left coxofemoral degenerative joint disease (arthritis in the left hip).
