About Porter
Porter is a striking retriever and hound mix with a brindle coat and a genuinely gentle presence. Born at the shelter, Porter found a family as a puppy, but nearly three years later, he was returned—for growing bigger than expected and because life simply got busy for them. Porter spent too much time crated and isolated, which took its toll, but he has rebounded remarkably since coming back. Now, he thrives in the shelter’s big yard, soaking up every bit of human attention and affection that comes his way. Porter is a solidly built, medium-to-large dog who craves companionship and will give you full-body hugs, holding close as if he can make up for the time he lost. Friendly and affectionate, Porter enjoys meeting other dogs in the yard and has the manners you want: he’s house-trained, crate trained, walks nicely on leash, and hops in the car with zero fuss. He’d fit well in a family who can make him part of daily life, whether that means joining in on adventures or curling up together in the evenings. He gets along with other dogs, cats, and children. What Porter wants most is to finally belong and to be cherished for the loyal, loving dog he is. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
