About Fred
Fred is one of the 29 dogs brought to safety after a rescue in North Alabama closed unexpectedly—he landed at Big Dog Ranch with a group of confused but hopeful dogs. Despite a tough start, Fred has shown nothing but gentleness and resilience, greeting each new day with a cautious curiosity. He and his companions spent nearly seven hours being gently coaxed to safety, and while he arrived scared, he never showed a hint of aggression—just uncertainty and a hunger for comfort. These days, Fred is learning new things, like how to walk on a leash and what it means to be truly cared for by people he can trust. The staff and volunteers note that he’s letting his sweet nature show more with every meal, every gentle pet, and every soothing word. Fred gets along well with other dogs, so he could fit into a home with canine siblings who can show him the ropes. With patience and a quiet kind of love, Fred is ready to start the next chapter in a real home, surrounded by people who see the good in him. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
