About Shio
Shio (which means "Salt" in Japanese) is a 4-year-old super mutt with a strong German Shorthaired Pointer influence. He’s about 40 pounds and current on vaccinations. Shio is rock-solid in the house: he’s crate trained, completely housebroken, and avoids food, trash, or causing any disruption. He’s respectful of furniture and obsessed with affection, eagerly soaking up any love he can. He already knows a handful of commands—sit, down, stay, leave it, spin, and jump—and he lives for outdoor adventures, whether that’s a beach run or a hike in the mountains. Shio does well with dog-savvy cats—he loves the cat in his current home and might adjust to a new one with a slow introduction. He gets along with some dogs but is generally dog-reactive, so a tolerant dog and gradual intro are musts. Shio has been solid with a 2-year-old child but is likely too nervous around younger kids due to their unpredictability. He needs an experienced adopter committed to ongoing training and desensitization to both dogs and strangers—Shio can be protective at home and sometimes fearful of new people. A securely fenced yard is required. He takes daily medication for anxiety and needs a sensitive-stomach diet (Hills Science Diet). The current family is ready to support a gentle transition with as many meet-and-greets or home visits as needed to set Shio up for success. Fun fact: Shio is a Libra—expect someone who thrives on partnership and harmony. Start your journey together! Apply now.

How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Shio’s breed mix does best with a good-sized, securely fenced yard where he can run, explore, and burn off energy.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
