About Monte

Monte lives with a condition called Megaesophagus, meaning his esophagus is enlarged and doesn’t properly move food to his stomach. Because of this, he eats all his meals sitting upright in a custom Bailey Chair—which comes with him when adopted! After eating, he stays sitting upright for about 10-15 minutes to help his food settle safely. Monte is already a pro at chair time and manages this routine well. He’s on a special diet, eats three times a day, and if he gets into anything outside of meal times, he needs to sit up again to avoid issues. His adopter needs to be diligent about managing his feeding schedule and avoiding accidental snacks. Beyond his condition, Monte is playful and full of life—he loves toys and regularly burns off energy with bursts of zoomies in the training room. Since treats aren't always an option, he’s been learning basics through play and special treats made just for dogs like him. Monte still needs some work on impulse control and benefits most from consistent routines and supervision.
