About Ivy

Ivy is a sharp, endlessly energetic 8-year-old Australian Cattle Dog living in Hempstead, NY. She’s wired for activity and cheese—if you need a dog who loves her toys squeaky and her games unending, she’s your match. Ivy plays hard but doesn’t switch off easily, so expect plenty of opinionated yips, squeals, and barks. She’s motivated, quick, and learns fast—when she’s focused and not in hyperdrive. You’ll want to keep Ivy on leash or in a yard with a truly secure fence; she can’t resist chasing anything that moves, especially smaller animals (cats and chickens beware), and farm life isn’t really a fit for her. Although she lives with kids and manages around other dogs, Ivy does not mix well with most canine housemates. She’s wary, somewhat bossy, and has a hard time respecting boundaries, so any dog friends need to absolutely accept her energetic, persistent style. Cats and small pets are a no-go. If you’re experienced with herding breeds—especially ACDs—you’ll recognize her typical quirks, but Ivy adds some extras: she’s learned to be cautious, can get fearful and reactive with strangers, and needs a steady, gentle owner who will set real boundaries. She is crate trained, house trained, and happiest with structure and engagement. Left alone with nothing to do, she’ll start her own projects—usually at your furniture’s expense. If you live somewhere neighbors won’t mind her vocal style and you’re willing to put in the work, she’ll reward you with slobbery affection and genuine connection. Let’s make it official, apply to adopt!
