Tess
AvailableTess is a senior, large hound mix with a short red, chestnut, and white coat. She is spayed, house trained, and up to date on vaccinations. Tess enjoys a calm life in Accord, NY and is in overall good health for her age, though she manages some arthritis and other minor age-related conditions.
About Tess
Tess, a 12-year-old hound mix, originally joined the rescue back in 2017 after coming up from Arkansas. She was treated for heartworm, found a home, and lived there until a change in circumstances brought her back in August 2024. Since returning, she's dropped most of the extra 30 pounds she arrived with and has kept up with all her medical needs. Despite her age, Tess isn’t entirely retired—she still shows some enthusiasm for strolls and short play sessions, though she’s just as content to nap in the sun and watch the world pass by. She is fully housebroken, past her puppy shenanigans, and settles easily when left alone. Whether you work from home or are in an office, Tess adapts and doesn’t get anxious if you’re out. Medically, Tess is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative (and on preventative), and takes daily NSAIDs for arthritis. She also has a benign basal cell tumor, various lumps and bumps, and some stable lung scarring from previous heartworm. She’s on antibiotics for a recent tick-borne infection, but otherwise, her bloodwork is normal. Tess does resource guard and may growl if disturbed with food or a bone. A quiet home suits her best for her golden years. A long-term foster is also possible if adoption isn't an immediate option. She’s ready to leave behind the chaos of shelter life and settle in comfort. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Tess
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Tess, as a hound mix, typically feels most at home in a calm, quiet environment where she can relax and enjoy gentle activity. She enjoys sunbathing and lounging, so a peaceful household suits her best.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Hound mixes like Tess appreciate some safe outdoor space to explore, but she’s content with a yard or daily walks due to her senior status. She isn’t high-energy, so long stretches outside aren’t essential.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Tess is beyond her playful years and prefers a quieter atmosphere, so she would do best in a home with older children or adults who respect her space, especially since she can guard resources like food.
