The Wire Fox Terrier was developed in England to bolt foxes from their dens, and it still carries a working terrier's drive in a compact, square body of 15 to 19 pounds. The dense, wiry coat is mostly white with black or tan markings, framed by a bearded muzzle and small folded ears. Wires have won more Westminster Best in Show titles than any other breed.
Living with one is lively. Many are bright, funny and quick to chase, dig and investigate, and they bond closely with their people while still thinking for themselves, so training takes patience. Low shedding doesn't mean low upkeep, since the coat needs regular stripping or clipping. In Henderson, where coyotes share the valley, secure fencing and a leash on walks matter for a dog this prey-driven.
