A Cavachon is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise, first bred intentionally in the United States in the mid-1990s as a small companion dog. Because it is a mix, looks vary: most have a soft, wavy to curly coat, drop ears, dark round eyes and colors such as white, apricot, Blenheim, ruby or tricolor. Kennel clubs do not recognize it as a breed.
Many Cavachons are cheerful, gentle and people-focused, with the Cavalier's love of laps and the Bichon's playful bounce. They usually enjoy walks and games but are happy to settle on the couch, which suits a range of households. The trade-offs are regular grooming, a tendency to dislike being alone, and health risks inherited from both parents, especially heart disease from the Cavalier side.
