Anatolian Shepherds are livestock guardians from central Turkey, bred to live with flocks and drive off predators without waiting for instructions. Adults are big and rangy, often 80 to 150 pounds, with a short to medium coat that's usually fawn with a dark mask, though other colors occur. They shed moderately to heavily, with a big seasonal blowout.
In a city like San Antonio, that guardian streak shows up as night barking, suspicion of visitors and a habit of testing fence lines. Many take two to three years to mature and respond best to patient, calm training. Dogs vary, and some are mellower than others, but plan for a protective, independent dog. Most are loyal to the whole household and gentle with the animals they grow up with.
