The Cane Corso is an Italian mastiff once used for farm work and guarding. It has a broad head, a muscular, rectangular frame and a short, dense coat in black, gray, fawn or red, often brindled. Sources differ on whether it's a large or giant breed, but most adults weigh somewhere between 85 and 120 pounds.
That size and strength shape daily life in Buffalo: handling a powerful dog on icy sidewalks, having room to stretch out indoors, and planning how to greet visitors. Many Corsos are calm and devoted at home but watchful with strangers, and some don't enjoy other dogs. Early socialization, steady reward-based training and confident handling matter, and each dog's own personality counts for more than its breed label, since appearance alone can't confirm a Corso.
