German Shorthaired Pointers were developed in nineteenth-century Germany to do every job a hunter needed, from pointing birds and tracking wounded game to retrieving on land and water. The result is a lean, muscular dog in solid liver or liver and white, often ticked or roan, with a short, dense coat and an alert head.
That working heritage shows up at home. GSPs tend to be friendly, affectionate and eager to learn, but many stay intensely energetic until two or three years old, and a bored one may chew, dig or clear a fence. In Fishers, the trails and fenced yards suit them well when daily running and training are part of the routine. Dogs vary, and adults are often calmer than puppies.
