Dr. Antonio Nores Martínez began developing the Dogo Argentino in Córdoba, Argentina, in the 1920s, aiming for a brave, athletic pack hunter that could pursue wild boar and puma. He started with the now-extinct Córdoba fighting dog and added breeds such as the Bull Terrier, Great Dane and Boxer. The result is a muscular, all-white dog of roughly 80 to 100 pounds with a short, smooth coat.
Many Dogos are affectionate and playful at home, yet confident and strongly driven to chase, so they do best with consistent handling and early socialization. In Savannah, that means a secure yard, leashed outings and a plan for the heat. Dogs vary, and some are easier to live with than others, so the dog's own personality matters as much as the breed.
