A Chinchilla is usually a Persian with silver coloring: each long white hair is tipped with black, so the coat shimmers like frosted silver. Green or blue-green eyes with dark rims complete the look. Kittens start with blue eyes and sometimes faint tabby markings that fade as the tipped coat develops. Most registries treat chinchilla as a Persian color rather than a separate breed, so Chinchillas in shelters are mostly Persians or Persian mixes.
Many share the Persian's calm, gentle, quiet temperament and prefer predictable homes, which suits Omaha's long indoor winters. The glamorous coat takes real work: daily combing, regular baths and face cleaning. Plan for Persian health risks too, including kidney disease and the breathing and eye problems tied to a flatter face. Each cat is different, so watch how a particular cat handles grooming, noise and company.
