About Kettle

Meet Kettle -- Kettle is looking for a rescue or special adopter to help her leave the shelter! Kettle has a sad story -- she recently was found running at large with three other dogs in unincorporated Kendall County. Luckily, all dogs were able to be safely contained. Kettle was found by our staff hiding in tall brush, hunkered down as she was so fearful and in pain. We quickly found out why she was so painful and unwilling to walk -- she has a broken pelvis and femoral head (four breaks!). Luckily, it seems that Kettle has a good prognosis for recovery with crate rest/limited activity while she heals. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances, poor condition of the dogs and lack of reclaim, we are suspicious that they may have been purposely abandoned in the area they were found. We do not know what caused her traumatic injury. We actually thought Kettle was a 5-6 month old puppy when found, until further examination indicated she is an adult -- probably 1.5-2 years of age. She is likely a Pit mix (possibly with the addition of a mastiff type dog) but only weighs 35 lbs! She may fill out to 40 lbs. but is otherwise at her adult size. She has a docked tail. Kettle is a sweet but shy girl. She will need a new owner or foster who will understand and be patient with her as she recovers, gains confidence, and learns "how to dog". She is starting from scratch, needing work on basic commands, housetraining, and even simple confidence. Kettle does better outdoors than indoors, and tends to flatten herself and army crawl around indoors until comfortable. She enjoys human affection, but might be too nervous for a home with small children at this time. She passed her cat test and dog/dog test -- but didn't appreciate a very rambunctious young male's rowdy play behavior. She did much better with a calmer dog. Kettle's adoption fee is $150 (+ County Tag) and she is now spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm tested negative. Please call or email with questions: 630-553-9256 or animalcontrol@Kendallcountyil.gov or stop by the shelter at 802 W John St. Yorkville, IL to visit or adopt during business hours.
