Meet Dixie, a roughly 4-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix who recently arrived at the shelter with her buddy, Darcy. They are still pretty new to us, and we’re still getting to know these ladies. Dixie is what we like to call a professional people person. She has apparently decided that every human she meets is her new best friend, and honestly, she hasn't been wrong yet. She is social, affectionate, enthusiastic, and absolutely THRIVES when she gets to spend time with people. If you're looking for a dog who will enthusiastically participate in your daily activities, Dixie would like to submit her resume. Qualifications include: Advanced people-loving High-level enthusiasm Willingness to learn Experience with children Previous experience living with cats Now, about those cats... Dixie isn't exactly sitting around writing poetry about her feline roommates. She would probably describe cats as "not really my thing." However, she previously lived peacefully in a home with cats, so she is capable of coexisting with the furry overlords when properly introduced and managed. Dixie arrived with Darcy, and they’ve made their stance on the other kennel neighbors: “Zero stars. Too loud. Would not recommend this hotel hallway.” After conducting dog-dog assessments we have determined that Dixie would be happiest as the only dog in the home. She is dog tolerant, and does seem to get along with other dogs who are respectful of her space. Other dogs who are young or don't understand the bubble, Dixie would like to unsubscribe. What we DO know is that Dixie is a fantastic people dog who will thrive with a forever family willing to give her the things every young, energetic dog needs: exercise, mental enrichment, structure, consistency, and plenty of quality time with her humans. In return, Dixie will likely provide you with approximately 97% more enthusiasm than you ordered. Dixie is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated and is ready to start looking for the people she can finally call her own.
