Wise, thoughtful, and sage Affectionate, gentle, kind People-oriented and attached at the hip Meet Chewey! Folks, your eyes do not deceive you - it is true that HSCC has our very own resident house hippo! It can be easy to confuse Miss Chewey for her river-dwelling relatives, but make no mistake - Chewey is 100% adoptable here in Vermont and is 100% ready to call your couch home. This darling girl came into the care of HSCC after her guardian was no longer able to support her ongoing medical needs. She has stolen the hearts of the entirety of our staff and volunteers, without so much as trying. It's impossible to not fall in love with her sweet doe eyes, or give in to her persistent pleas for belly rubs. She is endlessly loving and affectionate, and truly just needs a soft bed to lay on and some people to love her. HSCC's Medical Team has diligently invested their time and resources into giving Chewey the TLC she has so desperately needed. After a few weeks of decompression, acclimation, and on-going supportive care, she is now feeling comfortable and ready for a new family to take over her care. At heart, she is a young and spunky girl, who thrives off quality time spent with her people, and plenty of mental enrichment. Physically, she is looking for a home that is dedicated to supporting her medical needs as she begins to slow down and age - this may look like low-intensity exercise, single-level living, and accommodations to keep her comfortable. But make no mistake - Chewey has so much life and love in her left to give. Spend a minute with this house hippo and you'll understand why she's so near-and-dear to our whole team - being loved by Chewey is a profoundly affecting and heart-warming experience, and she deserves to receive that back ten-fold. Dogs: Chewey is looking for a home without any other animals. Cats: Chewey is looking for a home without any other animals. Kids: Chewey is looking for a home with older children and teens who can be respectful of her medical needs and potential physical discomfort. Ready to adopt your new best friend?
