About Benny

Meet Benny! This fluffy, handsome boy found himself at a high-kill shelter in Houston, Texas. After sweet photos captured the hearts of volunteers, he was rescued by a loving foster family just in time. Benny is around five years old and weighs approximately 60 pounds, though he could stand to gain a bit more. A mix of Rottweiler and Chow Chow, Benny is charming no matter his breed. He adores humans—men, women, kids, everyone—and currently shares his foster home with a five-year-old whom he absolutely loves. Benny has a playful way of invading your personal space. He'll stand nearby with his endearing smile, eagerly awaiting your attention, which means going to the bathroom alone is a thing of the past. While he's not hyper, he's no couch potato either—he enjoys walks and adventures but is just as happy lounging nearby. Benny walks well on a leash with a low prey drive, responding quickly to verbal cues. He's a smart boy who knows commands like sit and down, and he's respectful of potty training as well. In his interactions with other dogs, Benny tends to be a bit pushy and has an unfortunate habit of humping when overstimulated. This means he would likely do best as an only dog or with a confident canine buddy who can manage his quirk. However, he's great with cats and is easily redirected if he gets too curious. An interesting aspect of Benny's character is his unique 'Rottie rumble'—a deep, grumbly noise that expresses how happy he feels when comfortable. Benny has a strong dislike for crates and prefers to roam freely while you're away, resting peacefully until you return. He would thrive in a home with a backyard but ideally would love companionship during outdoor time. He’s seeking a family that appreciates his affectionate nature, possibly someone working from home or retired, who wants a laid-back companion. Currently undergoing treatment for heartworm, Benny is expected to be ready for adoption in mid-November and is looking for his forever home. His $600 adoption fee covers transportation to wherever he’s needed.
