About Grapefruit

Meet Grapefruit! This small, shy girl is our longest resident ever. Sheโ€™s faced significant challenges but still has so much love to give. Grapefruit came from a hoarding situation where she endured neglect and isolation, and she's the last one left from a group of 24. Weโ€™re hoping for a special someone to open their heart to her. At around 4 years old, Grapefruit is a Chihuahua mix, weighing just 12 pounds. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. This gentle girl takes time to warm up and needs an adopter who will allow her to acclimate slowly to her new surroundings. Initially, she will hide and may take weeks to feel secure, but once she trusts you, she'll become your devoted shadow. Grapefruit is not just gentle but has done well with other dogs after assessing their safety. Although she isn't currently fostered with cats, she has shown no prey drive with bunnies. While she's not been around children, we believe she would thrive with calm, older ones who respect her space and needs. A secure harness is necessary for outings since she can be an escape risk until she fully trusts her surroundings. Grapefruit is non-destructive and does well when crated or left alone in a room. She's also well on her way to being fully housetrained, preferring to potty outside despite initial nerves. This sweet, low-energy pup has a few moments of playful energy, but she mainly enjoys her quiet time. Grapefruit has shown remarkable improvement in her foster home, proving that with love and patience, she can thrive. We need someone who understands that adjusting takes time and is willing to give her that chance. Please consider making Grapefruit part of your family! She simply deserves a loving home that can be patient with her needs.
